About Me

Desk PhotoI've been writing code since high school. Wether it is for making websites, developing tools, multimedia art, or apps the fun part has always been making computers do what I want and organizing code to build a working application.

Origins

I started my journey surfing the web using dial-up internet in Romania. I was on IRC and Magellan when I decided I wanted to learn how to make my first website. While HTML was my first (markup) language, VisualBasic was my first introduction to programming.

C++ and PHP followed suit once I moved to the US and went to college at NYU-POLY. The campus at MetroTech Center in Brooklyn got me into exploring digital art using Processing and Max/MSP.

Building an app

After an entry-level front-end developer position right out of college, I wanted to join a start-up and found Classtivity (now Classpass) just as they (we) were entering TechStars.

The exposure that TechStars provided to mentors, and programming help from others within the cohort were extremely valuable. Observing different styles of leadership and problem solving trully cimented TechStars' reputation of a "startup accelerator".

From there I found an oportunity to join SportsRecruits as the lead software engineer.

Building a team

After single handedly rebuilding the platform from the ground up to support easy expansion into new sports and building a club SaaS offering, I became Chief Technology Officer and we began growing the Software Enginnering team.

Today I focus on implementing workflows that scale up with the size of the team. These includes procedures for planning and spec-ing the work. They also include advanced build workflows for easily building the codebase for different environments, running automated tests and optimizing the code for production.

From an internal memo I sent to my team which everyone said should be a blog post...

I am proud that we are the company in the youth sports space that's going against the practice of trying to fool parents and promise them the impossible. Instead, our entire platform and all of the work we all do revolves around making the recruiting process be a positive experience for athletes and their families.
